Dr. Archelle Georgiou is Executive Vice President of Strategic Relations with Specialized Care Services (SCS), a specialty health and well-being segment of UnitedHealth Group serving 55 million individuals. Dr. Georgiou works closely with large employers, health plans, and other health care organizations to design, implement and evaluate integrated health management solutions. Dr. Georgiou plays a highly influential role as the "voice of the customer" with product and technology development teams to help assure that the health care capabilities, products and services from SCS are aligned with emerging themes and trends in the health care industry. Dr. Georgiou spent the first five years of her career practicing Internal Medicine. Inspired by ideas and opportunities to improve the quality of care and the relationship between patients, doctors and the health care industry, she joined UnitedHealthcare as a Medical Director in 1995 and became Chief Medical Officer in 1999. Dr. Georgiou developed the business and clinical strategy for UnitedHealthcare's new medical management model designed to proactively meet patient health care needs and simplify navigation of the health care system. This model, Care Coordination™, launched in November 1999, was the core infrastructure that supported UnitedHealthcare's shift away from traditional utilization management. Care Coordination™ was a national news event and one of the nation's top five stories of the year. It marked the beginning of an industry sea change. Dr. Georgiou has appeared on Good Morning America and CNN. She has been invited to speak at the World Bank and the U.S. Defense Department, as well as a wide variety of health care industry organizations regarding integrated health care delivery models. Dr. Georgiou is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
