The Cure for Testicular Cancer

Dr. Lawrence Einhorn, Distinguished Professor of Medicine, Indiana University

Testicular cancer is the most common form of cancer among 15- to 35-year-old males. In the early 1970s, a young man diagnosed with testis cancer faced a 90 percent chance of dying. Today, he faces a 95 percent chance of living. What's the difference? Life and death, 30 years, and the work of Indiana Universit School of Medicine's Dr. Lawrence Einhorn.

Dr. Lawrence Einhorn is Distinguished Professor of Medicine at Indiana University, Dr. Lawrence Einhorn has paved the way for cancer treatment in the U.S. and internationally. Dr. Einhorn led the medical team treating testicular cancer survivor, Lance Armstrong, and is credited with increasing the testicular cancer survival rate from 10 percent to 95 percent through an innovative drug combination. Dr. Einhorn is a leading researcher, clinician and educator, teaching students important lessons in empathy for their patients.

In 2001, Dr. Einhorn was elected to two very prestigious societies: the American Philosophical Society, the oldest learned society in the United States promoting scholarly research in the sciences and humanities, and the National Academy of Sciences which is considered one of the highest honors for a U.S. scientist. Dr. Einhorn has been the recipient of many awards including the Living Legends Award from the Indiana Historical Society.
